New Packing Standards

Following international standards, all packaging material (dunnage/pallets) for imports into Japan must be made in accordance to the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15.  Material must be non-wood, kiln dried wood, fumigated or otherwise produced according to these international regulations to prevent the invasion of non-native insects into Japan.

Packaging material must have the required markings under this regulation:

In addition, documentation of proof of proper packaging should be included with the shipping documents.  Any penalties or costs incurred upon arrival in Japan in consequence of improper adherence to this requirement will be paid by the shipper.
