International Wood Specialists

Maruhon is a medium-sized Japanese building products importer/wholesaler. We import lumber and finished wood products directly from over 20 countries and are always eager to develop new suppliers and products. We stock nearly 100 species/product combinations (for example, over a dozen different Pine species in products such as lumber, flooring, FJL, and wall panel), and have introduced several different products and species to the Japanese market.  We are happy to work with first time exporters/importers and for all purchases, we prefer to work directly with manufacturers.


CUSTOMER BASE, DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL: 

Our primary market is the Japanese domestic market, but we also provide products for customers worldwide.  In Japan, we sell throughout the country, and to a variety of customer types, including retailers, manufacturers, pre-manufacturered home builders, furniture companies, and more.  We do a great deal of work with architects, assisting in specifying species and products for high grade homes.

Internationally, we can offer any wood product, but specialize in the more unusual rather than the commodities such as plywood, or structural/pallet grades of lumber.  If you are a potential international customer, please contact us with detailed specifications for a prompt and competitive offer.  We are most interested in high grade material in difficult specifications.  From our world-wide sources, we also offer competitive substitutes for familiar species.  Please provide us with a challenge!


WHAT WE BUY FOR JAPAN:

Our specific product lines for the Japanese residential construction market include rough and surfaced lumber and value-added material such as finger-jointed/laminated board, moulding, wall panel products, flooring, and decking.  We also handle several speciality fasteners and wood finishes.  We are eager to develop new products and are always pleased to be introduced to new species options for a familiar product line.  

We are investigating, but do not currently purchase products such as overlaid moulding, windows, roofing, siding, glulam, insulation, glass, stone or similar products used in construction.  We welcome information about such products for our files and future purchasing options.

We are currently ceasing the purchase of all door products for the Japanese market due to new Japanese regulations.  We can consider production that meets these standards, but if you are not able to meet the new regulations, we're sorry, but we cannot handle your doors.   

Although we can provide these products for custom orders domestically, we do not stock commodities such as plywood, OSB, MDF, or structural/pallet grades of lumber. We do not handle furniture, furniture parts or rattan products.  If you supply such products, we are happy to add your name to our data base in case requirements arise.

For all supplier inquiries, we would appreciate seeing a company catalog or a current stock list outlining your production.  Photographs of your facility and export packaging are also very helpful. Please outline any previous export experience, particularly to Japan.  Please do not email pictures without asking first.  

GENERAL ORDER TERMS:

For the Japanese market: our preferred port is SHIMIZU, Japan. We usually purchase in 40' container load volumes (although some material ships in some 20' containers, particularly in the case of flooring.)  We prefer pricing as CNF or CIF, Shimizu.   Payment terms are either ordinary Irrevocable LC at sight or CAOD (Cash Against Original Documents).  Bank References available.  Please be sure to send your address, phone and fax numbers, as well as an email contact.
